Ughhh come on dude… Prop it on the floor and show some support structure is the new Put A Bird On It
This blog will be a healthy portion of crow for my proverbial plate but I will eat it with plenty of hot sauce as I proceed to squarely blame others for my misjudgment. And just to make it a bit more palatable, I will break it up into four separate posts. This post where I eat my crow, and 3 others full of hot sauce.
I re-posted the picture above of a piece by Danh Vo with the rather glib remark, “Ughhh come on dude… Prop it on the floor and show some support structure is the new Put A Bird On It.” Then I saw the piece at the Biennale and thought it was interesting, ambitious, original, and so I was clearly wrong.
That I was wrong is not that illuminating, but why I jumped to judgement is symptomatic of a much broader phenomenon in the art world right now: the problem of scroll-by art consumption.
