The world turns faster than you do.

By tracking shadows across the canvas I am tracking the earth as it turns in relation to the sun - and the earth moves much, much faster than you or I. These paintings are meditations on impermanence and the way we cope with the rush of time together by passing small aphorisms and social gestures to each other.

The world moves faster than you do, faster than you ever could on your own. The only way that most of us experience our profound speed is by the movement of the sun. Its quiet marching across our sky mirrors your own silent rush through a space that you will never see.

There is something melancholic and beautiful about tracking a shadow that moves surprisingly quickly across the page or canvas. The resulting image is simultaneously abstract and directly representational. It is a physical and semiotic trace of a specific moment in time, pointing back in equal parts to the sun, my hand, and the object that cast the shadow to begin with.
